Jungles are the world’s powerhouses, the most vital habitats on the planet. They only cover 6% of the Earth, but they contain more than half of its plant and animal species living in a complex web of relationships. Without jungles, the planet would grind to a halt.The jungles of the world are all very different. Charlotte takes a close look at the animals inhabiting the jungles, highlighting how they have adapted to survive the challenging conditions. Using hi-tech climbing technology and a hot-air balloon, Charlotte explores the soaring canopy of the Borneo rainforest – a green landscape hundreds of feet off the ground filled with all kinds of animal life. She also takes a boat into the flooded forest floor of the Amazon, where fish and dolphins swim between the trees. Finally, she delves into the dense underworld of the Congo at ground level – dark, damp and full of dangerous animals. This is her account of her journey, and through her words and research we are given a day-to-day glimpse of a fascinating world, from the largest primates to the tiniest insects.
